The FOCUS Programme
Dr Paula Barrett and her team of clinical psychiatrists developed the FOCUS programme so that people with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) can get treatment which supports them and their family in learning to live and work with OCD.
Training in FOCUS, a tool for psychologists and other medical professionals for use with their OCD clients, is now available in New Zealand.

Strategies
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is one of the most severe anxiety disorders.
Affecting as many as 3% of children and adolescents, it can profoundly interfere with a child’s academic performance, peer relationships and family life.
Many children with OCD never get treatment because they are too embarrassed to tell anyone about their symptoms, in case people think they are crazy.
Therefore an important first step is to bring these children together so that they can see that they are not alone.

The last sessions are a form of booster where the child reviews skills and receives assistance with any new OCD symptoms. | ||
The programme also aims to provide both parents and siblings skills to help the child fight the problem in a supportive environment. |
The Focus programme can only be used by accredited trained professionals - paediatricians, psychologists, psychiatrists, general practitioners (medical doctors) and social workers and only after they have undergone specific training in the Focus programme. Contact Lifepaths with all enquiries.
